David Doss studied at the Academy of Art in Chicago, Illinois and the
Atelier of Fine Art in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The scope of his work is defined as Classical Realism and Fine Art Illustration.
The Atelier Studio Program on Fine Art focuses primarily on teaching fine draftsmanship and painting
skills leading to the creation of well constructed realistic artwork. The Atelier has passed on from teacher to student, a
method of instruction which melds formal academic training with the influence of the French Impressionists. European art academies
brought this combined education to the American students in the late nineteenth century, and the tradition as continued hence. The Atelier's lineage began in 1748 with Master Painter Jaques-Louis David and continues today under
the direction of Dale Redpath and Cyd Wicker. Such is the lineage of the paintings of David L. Doss.
Of 150 applicants world wide, only 2 applications were accepted for training at the Atelier, one of which was David Doss.
At the tender age of 24, David was bestowed the Ateliers highest honor of Best Portrait Painter in America. The painting
was chosen from thousands of paintings here and abroad. The winning portrait was titled "Mercury."
David currently resides in Florida and continues to paint today.
